  • How to Install Windows Live Messenger & Microsoft Visual C++ on Ubuntu ( Linux Generally) Under Wine



    Install Windows Live Messenger :

    Today we are going to install Windows Live Messenger & Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 on Ubuntu Under Wine


    We will use Latest Wine Version , Right Now Latest Version is 1.1.24

    Note for Ubuntu Users : Ubuntu Uses Latest Stable Version of Wine 1.0.1 on it's Repositories

    So Download Latest Version from Here : http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html

    Or Add WineHQ APT Repository Here : http://www.winehq.org/download/deb

    Now we will use many Wine Tricks to help use to install Windows Live Messenger .

    Open Terminal & Type

    wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks

    then we will use these packages of Wine Tricks to help us to Install WLM

    corefonts
    flash
    gecko
    gdiplus
    msls31
    msxml3
    riched20
    riched30
    tahoma

    Now Type on Terminal :

    sh winetricks corefonts flash gecko gdiplus msls31 msxml3 riched20 riched30 tahoma

    Now we Installed Wine Tricks That we will Use.

    Download This Version “Install_{508CE775-4BA4-4748-82DF-FE28DA9F03B0}.msi” of WLM

    Press Here

    Now Open WLM Setup File that you just Downloaded , Install it , Enjoy Windows Live Messenger.

    Many of C++ Programmers who just moved to linux are not familiar with GCC and G++ Compilers and Also Need Microsoft Visual C++ libraries , we Are lucky that there is version of Microsoft Visual C++ Working Under Wine Perfectly and it is “Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Standard Edition”

    Get your Legal Copy of Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Standard Edition and Install it Using Wine + Wine Tricks Installed Above .
